NEWS & INFORMATION
NASO SUMMIT JULY 27 -29
The annual National Association of
Sports Officials (NASO) Summit is July 27-29th in Cleveland, Ohio.
Officials and officials association leaders from across the country
will be in attendance, working to provide better officiating for our
schools. You can
click here for the summit brochure
FOOTBALL OFFICIALS NEEDED
The Northern California Football Officials Association (NCFOA) is
actively recruiting for men and women (we currently have two ladies in
our group) to be high school football officials for games in San
Francisco and San Mateo Counties. No experience is necessary; we will
train. The only prerequisite is the love of football. Many of our high
school officials have moved on to junior college, Division I NCAA
football, and even the NFL, Hard working and dedicated officials can
earn up $1000 per season.
Officials are currently paid $59 for varsity, $46 for non-varsity, and
$44 for Pop Warner games. During a typical fall schedule, officials can
work between four to eight games from Thursday to Sunday.
Currently, the NCFOA has 68 members to officiate all high school games
in three different high school leagues (AAA, PAL, and WCAL), plus
several Pop Warner programs from Daly City to Palo Alto. Ideally,
we want to put at least four officials on the field for every Pop Warner
and sub-Varsity game and five officials for most varsity contests.
Unfortunately, due to work, family, and other personal commitments, we
cannot always achieve that goal. In short, we need more people to
learn how to officiate high school football games. For more information, contact the NCFOA via e-mail at: ncfoaref@comcast.net.
AN ENDORSEMENT FOR OFFICIATING
Check out this article regarding the tough job all officials
have and some kind words about the avocation.
VOLLEYBALL OFFICIALS EVALUATION FORM
The NCVA Volleyball Officials Association services AAA League
and SF Section championship matches. In an effort to continually
work toward providing the best volleyball officials for our matches, the
NCVA asks that coaches complete an
evaluation form
for each official after every match. Please check this link for a
copy of the form to be used and faxed to the NCVA.
INCIDENT REPORT INFORMATION
When something out of the ordinary happens at a game, what are
the officials responsibilities? Check this link for some helpful
information for all officials on how to craft and what to include in your
incident report.
FENCING OFFICIALS NEEDED
The United States Fencing Association (USFA) is looking for
individuals interested in officiating the sport of Fencing. A
background in Fencing is helpful but not necessary as training will be
provided. For more information on how to get started, please call
George Nonomura at 415-643-0900.

RELATIONS
Check out this link for some good information on the relationship
between coaches and officials.
OFFICIATING CAN BE HAZARDOUS
Officials, check out this link to an article about an unfortunate
incident. Hopefully this will never happen in the AAA, however it's
always good to be prepared.
